Where are you from?
Janell:
I am from the land of Purple People Eaters! Home
to the 2006 Super Bowl Champs Minnesota Vikings. I was born
in the heart of Minnesota home to the legendary cow tipping
contests.
JBM:
What did you do for a living before the internet?
Janell:
My first job out of college was working for a telecommunications
company working on their intranet back in 1996. I have worked
in some form or fashion for an internet company for 9 years.
JBM:
How did you get involved with the porn business?
Janell:
Honestly I answered and ad for TopBucks.
I really didn’t understand until I was at the interview
just exactly how “Adult” the company was. The
opportunity was amazing and the people at TopBucks
are very professional. I am always game for a challenge so
3 years later here I am working in adult.
JBM:
Does your family know what you do?
Janell:
I try to keep my personal life and professional
life separate even before I started working in the adult arena.
It makes for a happy marriage and happy family reunions.
JBM:
What is your position title and what do you do?
Janell:
My title is Sales Manager. I have my hands in a little
bit of everything. I work obviously on bringing in new sales
with webmasters but also I work with affiliate trades, upsells,
members area, exits, cross sales, payouts, fraud scan, webmaster
support, trade shows, marketing and other duties as assigned.
JBM:
What made you decide to leave Topbucks?
Janell:
I really saw this opportunity to be a part of a new
growing program and it was the challenge that really pushed
me to leave. I enjoyed working with the TB folks as they are
a great crew. I left because XBangCash
is an expanding program and I have a larger role in decision
making. The crew at XBangCash
is equally professional and fun to work with.
JBM:
How is life at XBangCash?
Janell:
To sum up life at XBangCash
is “Feeling groovy.” We are working new sites
and we have some new tools for webmasters we are working on.
We have some amazing techs who I swear never sleep. I work
with Lee Noga and she makes everyday entertaining to say the
least. I await her icq’s that say “You are never
going to guess……” Trust me they are as amusing
and colorful as you can imagine. All the XBangCash
folks are willing to pitch in and do what’s needed to
get done. It’s really a team focused company.
JBM:
Have you ever seen Lee Noga naked?
Janell:
Shok!
JBM:
Take us through an average day?
Janell:
I log in between 7-8 religiously everyday. I check
email (download the spam) and check the boards. JBM
is always the first board I scan. I load my playlist for the
day and I check our stats and go through the new webmaster
signups. I work closely everyday with Lee. We make sure our
webmasters are taken care of. I enjoy the research projects
I get from my bosses. There is always some new task to take
care of which is really the favorite part of my day. I am
online from 8-5 to work with webmasters and other affiliates.
I tend to log off between 5:30pm and 8ish to spend time with
the family. I log in around 9 to check stats, email and the
boards before calling it a day.
JBM:
What do you like most about this business?
Janell:
The part of the business I enjoy the most is working
with great people. One of the most surprising elements to
me was that most of the people are very professional. I was
worried that being a woman I would be treated differently
but most of the people in the industry are here to do their
job and don’t cross the lines. The shows are fun and
can be a great way to do business too.
JBM:
Who do you admire in this biz?
Janell:
Oh this is a toughy because I have several friends,
coworkers and partners in crime (lol.) The person who I do
admire most is someone who has no idea I watch him so closely.
I think of him as the The Silent Player, it’s WiredGuy.
This guy is very professional, smart, keeps his cool and dam
he’s good at what he does! WiredGuy I just outed myself
as your biggest fan.
JBM:
Did you know he has a vagina? I have touched it.
What are your goals in this biz?
Janell:
My goal is to have better numbers than the day before.
At the end of the day the bottom line speaks loudly. I also
want to continue to work with other affiliates to keep our
business strong and profitable. We are all in this together
and we have to work hard to shut down cheaters, scammers etc
and work on complying with the rules and regulations however
fair or unfair they seem to be.
JBM:
What do you think of the 2257 mess and how will XBangCash
deal with it?
Janell:
XbangCash
has covered ourselves to be compliant with the 2257 regulations.
We take these regulations seriously and we comply with the
record keeping requirements.
JBM:
What we really want to know is: hip to hip, landing strip
or the kemo look?
Janell:
wouldnt you like to know
you should have a bus and you could travel around like Dave
Attel and call it Shok attack
JBM:
How much cash would it take to make you content?
Janell:
Wow that’s an interesting question. Well I
am a mom so it would take more money than Michael Jackson
has spent on his face, attorneys and his La La Neverland Ranch.
I am a true country girl at heart and besides there is no
need to scar my kids for life.
JBM:
I have 100 bucks that says otherwise.
How do you see the future of online porn shaping up?
Janell:
Let me look into my crystal ball for this one. Most
definitely our business models have changed and will continue
to change. With spamming regulations, 2257, visa chargeback
issues and other laws and legislation are making our business
more publicized and more of a target for senators and reps
seeking re-election. Certain groups are trying to put the
“blame” on the adult industry for exposure to
kids. Personally I think the majority of the responsibility
in regards to children having access to adult material lies
within their own home not on those providing the material.
It’s one of the issues at hand that really gets me.
In the future it will be harder and harder to start an affiliate
program and keep webmasters promoting because of the stiff
competition between affiliates. Online porn is here to stay
and people will find a way to get their needs filled. When
Brad Shaw says he can’t make any more money in porn
then I will really start to worry.
JBM:
Any tips for newbies?
Janell:
I hear this often from newbies “So and so is
doing great doing it this way.” Just because it works
for one person doesn’t guarantee it will work for others.
The trial and error lessons learned are really what helps
webmasters to become educated about their traffic. Not all
sites convert well not all red sites are the best not all
tgp’s work the same etc. If something isn’t working
try something else. Sign up for a couple of sponsors and try
promoting for more than 1 day. 2k worth of hits is not enough
to determine if it your campaign will be successful.
JBM:
