JBM:
Hi justb, thanks for doing this. Let's start by finding out
how you got started?
JustB:
I was working at the St Pete Times Forum in the luxury sky
boxes. One of the suites I worked was owned by Entertainment
Network aka Voyeur Dorm. My daughter was just getting ready
to start kindergarten so I was getting ready to go back to
work full-time. I was interviewing and sending out resumes.
I was talking to David Marshlack’s assistant about what
was going on and he overheard and hollered across the box
to hire me. Turns out they were getting ready to go to the
Miami show and needed someone else to learn billing, etc….
The funny thing was that my first full week on the job was
when they launched askoj.com. Quite an introduction to the
biz. It was crazy! Fortunately, I’m the type of person
who loves the excitement and it didn’t scare me away.
I was stunned when we went out to eat with OJ one night and
people actually lined up for his autograph!
JBM:
What do you do?
JustB:
I do a little bit of everything around here. Mainly billing
and account management. Some marketing, some sales, etc…
I really enjoy working with the clients. I have made some
good friends all over the world working here. I love the International
aspect of this business. My daughter is email pen pals with
one of our Australian client’s daughters.
JBM:
Can you replace a server?
JustB:
I have swapped out hard drives before at home lol. I can name
all the parts for a badass box and I know what a xeon is.
I still have a hard time saying the word “processor”
though. I definitely know how to unplug a box from the network
though lol and I have done it a couple times to a few choice
people. Our admins are great that work here. I’ll send
up an unplug order and they’ll call down and ask if
I want to come up and do it.
JBM:
What are some interesting facts about Candid?
JustB:
One of our first customers was liveprayer.com. Because of
the Voyeur Dorm we had the capability for the live streaming
that was not available other places. That always entertained
me.
A lot of people don't realize that we truly are global now.
We have data centers in N America, Europe, and Asia. These
are real data centers that you can physically see and go to.
I just saw a picture of Hostway's offices in Korea and I was
blown away.
Also, we are no longer affiliated with Candid Cam or Entertainment
Network. I think there has still been some confusion because
of the "Candid" name.
JBM:
Which customers do you like best, adult or nonadult?
JustB:
I like both.It's good that we have diversity because it keeps
things moving and exciting. Plus my Mom can know where I work!
Obviously, I have the most fun with the adult clients.
JBM:
Is it hard for hosting companys to make a buck these days?
JustB:
I think it would be hard for anyone just starting out. Prices
are continually getting lower for bandwidth. We try to pass
that along to our clients but at the same time we have to
make a buck. Since we were acquired by Hostway our buying
power increased tremendously so we have been able to become
competitve again.
JBM:
What's the newest and greatest thing in the hosting world?
JustB:
It is going to be us next month with our re-launch. New name,
new look, new products. We're all very excited about the direction
we're heading in.
JBM:
If it wasn't for porn, what would you be doing now?
JustB:
Hmmmmm, hard to say. Probably working in catering or something
like that. Event planning. Maybe just be bored in an accounting
office for a mainstream company. That would be awful!
JBM:
How much would it cost for a sensual massage?
JustB:
Hmmmmmmmm, enough money for a hit man to take out my large
former marine husband lol
JBM:
Who do you admire?
JustB:
I admire the people in this business that are honest and professional
to deal with. The ones that are successful seem to get there
by doing the right thing and being straight up. There is a
group of people who treat this as a hobby then there are those
who treat it as a profession. I’d name names but would
probably leave someone out and then get nasty emails!!
JBM:
Have you ever thought about incorporating mind control tactic
to current customers to make them use more hosting...you know
like KFC uses Colonial Sanders with his wee beety eyes to
make you do things in your sleep?
JustB:
Yes, I have suggested we get a mascot similar to the JBM bird.
JBM:
If you were a server, would you have 3 inputs or just 2?
JustB:
Definitely 3. The more the merrier.
JBM:
Why does candid not have a party bus?
JustB:
ENI kept the bus when the 2 companies split. I am not quite
sure what we would do with one now. Who is going to miss the
bus at the show? I think it was Boneprone I heard stories
about………..
JBM:
Anything you would like to plug?
JustB:
We have a new contract with Dell that has enabled us to offer
